Pier’s Peer – Manhattan Beach

A patch of wet sand creates a near-perfect reflection of a vibrant winter sunset at the Manhattan Beach Pier.

On a warm winter evening, I hurried down to the Manhattan Beach Pier, camera in hand. I had been tracking the forecast all day long. And, everything seemed to line up perfectly — from the weather to the tides. When I reached the water, I set up my camera next to the pier, and I waited for the sunset.

Then, as is so often the case, the sunset seemed to come and go with out much fanfare. I had just about given up when I noticed a small band of color on the horizon. In a matter of minutes, this band of color consumed the entire sky. The sunset was vibrant and intense, the perfect complement to the Manhattan Beach Pier.
